The sword has a beautiful shape, well-balanced and assembled tightly. Wire-brushed grains are clearly visible on the blade. Please be careful to not use Uchiko powder (used for Shinken) as it may cause damage to alloy blades. However, regularly applying oil is advised to feed the wood of the Saya. It is not absolutely necessary to oil the blade because it does not rust. The sword is designed for iaido practice, the blade is made of 1060 carbon steel and dull. Unlike steel Shinken (Katana), Iaito require only minimal maintenance.
